I found River (then "Chops") through a somewhat roundabout process. After leaving my then-current barn where I had been riding sale horses, I decided to look at getting my own horse. Searching sale ads, I expanded the distance on a lark and found a pretty chestnut filly I liked the looks of. I looked up the website, called the number, and the seller told me she had another horse, a gelding, that sounded more like what she thought I'd want.
I still wanted the filly, but my trainer agreed with the seller. I went down and rode both and was promptly smitten with this big, dark, gorgeous boy. A week and a half later, he came home and I started my journey of learning how to own a horse!
River raced about 16 times, winning only once, and is a grandson of Seattle Slew. He loves 24/7 turnout, horse buddies, cats, grass, hay, food in general, and trail rides. He's always working on breaking down the "crazy Thoroughbred" stereotype; sometimes he does better than others! ;) River and I plan on doing low-level jumping and dressage, besides playing around on the trails and with whatever else strikes our fancy.

Wow! He actually looks a lot like Seattle Slew. I have to say, I am a big, big, fan of OTTBs! I hope to adopt one maybe next year. By the way, thank you for following my blog!
ReplyDeleteHe really does :) OTTBs are awesome, you do have to be careful not to be taken in by some sellers though! I was blessed to find a great seller, Pinch of Luck farm in GA. They send horses all over the nation, so check them out sometime! :)
DeleteWhat a handsome face! My OTTB also loves his 24/7 turnout. They are awesome horses for the right riders.
